The style of Christopher G. Moore is a sort of combination of Raymond Chandler, John Le Carre and Mickey Spillane. When Vincent Calvino Private Eye appeared in 1991 with the international publication of the Spirit House, a loyal and enthusiastic audience embraced him with joy. This is the eighth book in the series Calvino, and the fans will not be disappointed. Moore has made the remarkable. He wrote a book about a boring of the busiest spots in the world. Of course, Pattaya is a lousy, dangerous international flesh-pot. What is so bad? It is one of the few places that keeps its reputation. After a week there, I always say I’ll never go back. But after one month, I miss her. Bangkok has some blocks tired of Soi Cowboy Soi Nana or Pattaya Pattaya but that’s all. I retired in Nong Khai, but I’ll Pattaya Pattaya besuchen.Moore approaches such as Krung Thep capita appropriate, from the south. He never seems to enter the city. It is never on the Walking Street or Beach Road. Kotoeys No, the real bar girls baht bus drivers, poor farangs love / Young broke out, the Russians died, team volleyball German women, or punters retirement. In short, not really Pattaya. Flotsam of the male species and a foreign group, even species possibly washing woman on the beach of Pattaya. Moore ignored this strange mixture of humanity and focuses on an old queen, outside the city. Why? How boring is a surprise that his book “Mia Noi” is very good. OK, not as good as anything Jake Needham wrote, but reading acceptable until the next journey to the Kingdom. Spoil yourself: Avoid this book. Go to one of the websites of Pattaya and get an idea of what the city really. Then go there. And bring some Tylenol.Rating: 5.1
I found Pattaya 24 / 7 very entertaining. It is a noir detective novel style, but what distinguishes them is the creation of Pattaya, Thailand, and the number of unique characters that Moore. It takes a city through intense change and a culture that is slowly changing, but still strong traditional elements. The action moves quickly enough and the mix of criminals, terrorists and a subplot continues to turn the pages. Some of the features of Moore, as the repeated use of “laws of Calvino” to a certain maxims that Vincent Calvino PI life to old words came to me after a while, but always appears as a character Calvino nice. A kind of Sam Spade with a good heart.
Rating: 04/05
This book is lavishly applied multidimensional charcter (Calvino and his usual cohorts) and shows a deep understanding of Thai culture and expatriates. A real page-turner that is very satisfying.
