It is the end of the monsoon season and the rains have been particularly bad in Thailand this year with flooding in Bangkok and in the regions around. This meant we relaxed round the pool and ate and drank as there is enough visual beauty in the Dhara Dhevi to keep one happy and we had done all the major sites such as the Elephant Farm, Wat on the top of the mountain and the Orchid Farm before. All well worth doing. Entry from: Chiang Mai, Thailand Entry Title: “Up a lazy river and back to Chiang Mai” Entry: “Our goal since leaving Chiang Mai on the 27th was to travel up the Mekong River in Laos to the border crossing at Houayxay (“hway-sigh”), somehow get across the river to Chiang Khong in Thailand and then through some means get back to Chiang Mai, preferably before Monday morning, when Jim had to resume his written Thai language class. We were making it up as we went. Somehow, it all worked out. I’m always amazed when it does. But it happens more often than not when traveling like this. (I call it bungee-jumping.)
